How to sew an Infinity Scarf

An infinity scarf is a stylish and versatile accessory that can be worn in a variety of ways. It's also easy to make with a few simple steps.

Here's how to sew an infinity scarf:

Materials you will need:

• 1/2 a metre of light weight knit fabric. (The width of fabric is normally perfect length 130-170cm and 40-50cm wide)
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Thread
• Pins

Steps:

1. Cut your fabric into a rectangle that is approximately 150cm long and 40cm wide. You can adjust the length and width to your desired size but I normally buy 1/2 a metre of my desired fabric and the width that the fabric comes is a perfect length for my scarf. 
2. Fold the fabric in half with the patterned sides facing each other and pin the two long edges together to make a long tube shape. 
   
3. Sew a straight seam along the pinned edge, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam to secure it. (You can overlock instead if you wish) 
   
   
4. Turn the scarf right side out. 
5. Straighten out and follow the seam edge until you have both ends of the seam in each hand. Fold the tube in half equally and pin the seams you just created together with the patterned sides facing each other. 
6. With both the tube openings pinned at the seams. You should have 4 layers of fabric edges together. Keeping the fabric patterned side to patterned side, pin together the two middle layers. Keep pinning around the tube edges until 3/4 of the circle is pinned. This bit can be tricky. 
   
   
    
7. Sew a straight seam along the inner pinned edge  slightly turning your scarf inside out as you go until your scarf fabric is all bunched coming out of the 1/4 gap that has not been sewn.  Don’t forget to backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam to secure it.
   
   
   
8. Turn the scarf right side out again and you will be left with a small hole in the seam. Fold the exposed edges in and pin the hole closed. 
     
9. Straight stitch the hole closed as close to the edge as you can. You can also handstitch if you prefer to. 

Your infinity scarf is now complete! You can wear it by wrapping it around your neck once or twice, or even as a headscarf or shawl. It's a great accessory for any season and can be made in a variety of fabrics and colours to match your style.
